Lisa Hunter joins LION Publishers as Director of Finance and Operations

We’re thrilled to welcome Lisa Hunter as LION Publishers’ director of finance and operations, a role in which she’ll take the lead on making sure LION continues to grow responsibly while serving its members and the broader independent news industry.

Lisa, a Connecticut native and long-time Bay Area resident, joins LION after serving as Finance Director at Renaissance Entrepreneurship Center. She is also the founding Board Treasurer of Marked by COVID.

Lisa loves to travel and learn new languages, which motivated her to move to Rome, Italy, for her graduate studies in Government and Politics. Once back stateside, Lisa spent more than a decade supporting nonprofits in Learning & Evaluation roles and later earned an MBA from UC Berkeley-Haas to gain the skills to align programmatic strategy with financial sustainability and operational excellence.

Lisa also brings years of consulting experience to her role, with expertise in implementing data systems and leading Theory of Change workshops. Outside of work, Lisa can be found teaching women’s self defense, hiking, meditating, or relaxing with a book and a cat.

In her role with LION, Lisa’s most immediate priorities will include:

• deciding how to manage and coordinate our finance, administration and operations functions through a mix of internal and external operations, and how to build out future capacity to support that work
• ensuring we have good processes in place to communicate our progress on the business side of our operation to our staff, board and other key stakeholders
• playing a key role in helping LION set and track its key performance indicators
