LION Publishers’ mission is to help local news entrepreneurs build and grow financially sustainable small businesses. And at this year’s annual Summit in Seattle, it’s particularly important to us that we support journalists of color from across the country who represent the diversity of the publications and communities LION aims to serve.
That’s why we’re offering discounted tickets to all members of the National Association of Black Journalists, the Asian American Journalists Association, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Native American Journalists Association.
The LION Summit is a gathering of people who work or have an interest in working at the nexus of business, operations and product in local online news. This year’s Summit is in Seattle, Washington from Thursday, Oct. 22 –Saturday, Oct. 24. On Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24 we’ll host an incredible lineup of speakers, practical and hands-on workshops, an opening reception party, an awards show dinner and the opportunity to connect with other independent local news publishers. On Thursday, Oct. 22, we’ll be hosting a training day with two tracks: One focused on aspiring news entrepreneurs who want to start a local news site; the other focused on local news entrepreneurs who have started their business and need laser-focused help with monetization.
Journalists of color who are members of NABJ, AAJA, NAHJ and NAJA can receive a discount that allows them to buy the Thursday Training Day ticket and the Friday/Saturday Summit ticket at the same rate as our LION members. If you’re a member of one of these organizations who is interested in attending this year’s Summit, please reach out to LION Programming Director Anika Anand at anika@lionpublishers.com to receive the promo code.

We hope you join us for the 2020 LION Summit so we can learn and share best practices on creating sustainable independent local media.
