David Beard began on small-town papers in Erie, Pa., and Muskegon, Mich., then moved to the AP and a few big papers. He shifted completely to digital in 2006 as head of Boston.com, then the Boston Globe's website. In 2010, he led a digital shift at the National Journal, then ran engagement and digital content for the Washington Post, where Jeff Bezos didn't make him cry. In the past few months, he has been working with INN, LION, the Knight Foundation and Montclair State's Center for Collaborative Media on a piece of the Facebook Journalism Project -- using FB tools and expertise to build audience and revenue for local news. He is a 2017-18 research fellow at Harvard's Shorenstein Center on a project to help single-subject sites.
