Jiquanda Johnson is a publisher, editor, and freelance journalist. She recently founded Brown Impact Media Group, a publishing company aimed at rebirthing community journalism throughout the state of Michigan.
In March 2017, she stepped out on journalistic faith, left the newsroom at MLive.com and launched her company’s first news site, FlintBeat.com, a hyper local news outlet covering Flint, Mich.
She also serves as consultant and editor for the English version of Al-Meezan, a Dearborn, Mich. based print publication covering issues for the Arabic-Muslim community and she serves as editor-in-chief for The Michigan Banner, a print and online publication covering Michigan’s Great Lakes Bay Region.
In the past, Jiquanda has worked for Fox 46 in North Carolina, NBC25 an affiliate station in the Flint area, The Detroit News, the Flint Journal, Pull Magazine, and Tween Girl Style Magazine. She has also been published in Between the Lines and Flintside.com.
Jiquanda’s goal is to inspire, impact and educate communities. She is currently working with local agencies to open a community media center to create news literacy and opportunities for children in Flint.
When she’s not chasing stories, Jiquanda can be found playing mom to her son Joshua, 14 and daughter Jordan, 9. She and her family live in the Flint area.
